Title: Sojourner
Post by: glenn kangiser on May 01, 2009, 01:03:15 AM
I have not researched what this is all about - may not get time as I am still working out of town and will be for about 6 months, but my son sent an e-mail saying the foundry he works at cast the Sojourner Bust and he did the patina finish on it.

Background - Bush signed a law in 2006 requiring  the Bust to be placed at the capitol.

That is so weird...why would he sign a law for that?  I never thought that certain statues were required to be where they are by law.   [noidea'

It's too bad that your son doesn't get to be in the picture. Just a bunch of people who probably had nothing to do with it. Rant over.

Anyways, that's awesome that your son worked on it!

Yeah - It's kind of cool as he started the finishing - patina section of that foundry and because they can deliver a completed product rather than others having to do the finishing and Patina, they are busier than other foundries with many being slow or out of work.

I also was impressed that it needed a law to get it there.... [waiting]

I don't see that so much as a law as a decree that the statue be placed in Emancipation Hall. Maybe a difference od semantics. In any event it does make sense from the point of view that everything on public display should be approved by our government representatives and duly signed because that should prevent the willy-nilly changing and introduction of new memorials (spending of public money) by a group with a minority view. Or something like that.

I think this one is a group with a minority view, but - it is still cool to get a piece of art like this commissioned.  It helps put food on my sons family.... :)  (Thanks, Dubya)
