Title: Keeping a tradition alive.
Post by: Redoverfarm on April 26, 2009, 12:23:33 PM
Every year some of the better music students play for the Elementary School students at the Public Library.  The children are introduced to traditional music.  The students usually are comprised of all the grades but it was decided that the older children of 3rd,4th & 5th grades more apted to take up music due to their maturity.   There is exceptions but the attention span of the youger students is not as good.  Even if one or two students are interested it will keep this tradition going.    Here is a couple clips of my son playing for the kids. Sorry for the quality of the video's.

Poppy there was a fiddle in the presentation.  His multi-talented teacher played it while Steven played fiddle sticks on the strings while she played the fiddle.  I had a hard time down loading the two other video's and didn't try that one.  He also did the same thing at the State Capitol last year with her.  Well if you ever wondered where the saying "fiddle sticks" came from that is where.

n74tg & NM Shooter he is 14 years old.  This will be this 5th year playing.  Started at age 9

The video's was taken by the DW with a cheap camera so they really don't do him justice.

Yeah Don I am rather proud.  But more so that he can think as well as play.  Shoot I can't even play a radio.

Very nice! I wish we practiced as a group more often... It's really helpful to have someone with more experience to get everybody pointed in the right direction.

Great playing, and it's always encouraging to see a younger generation interested in traditional music & instruments.  As someone just picking up the guitar at age 43, I sure wish I'd started at his age.
