The NM legislature changed a provision of the CCW law to allow concealed carry to be extended to include restaurants that have a liquor license. Prior to this it was against the law to carry a concealed weapon into such a restaurant. Now you don't have to leave it in your car where it does no good and could be stolen. Restaurants still retain the right to ban guns if they so wish. Establishments that do not make more than 50% of their income from food do not qualify. IE: no guns in bars.

Here, we may carry a gun where alcohol is served, but it must be in the open. We do something called the Va tuck where we just tuck our jacket under the gun so it can be seen. For the last two years, the General Assembly has voted to allow concealed carry but last year our idiot Governor vetoed it and I expect he will this year also. The SO will be gone next year.

Do you have to apply for a permit?
Virginia is a "Shall Issue " State. Unless you are a convicted felon, under restraining order or mentally ill, and you have not been convicted for a misdemeanor within the last 3 years, you cannot be refused a permit.
In NM you have to take a class, and pass a test, plus be re-certified every 2 years.
All the hoops can be found here...
