Title: Buried copper water service, does it need to be wrapped/protected?
Post by: cedarglen on March 06, 2009, 02:05:58 PM
I'm putting 3/4 inch type K copper in ground from the meter to the house, does it need to be (or should it be) wrapped or protected in amy way before I bury it? If so, what to I wrap it with?

That may depend on local conditions. Where Glenn is copper in the fround will get eaten up.

We have sch 40 PVC.

I would love to put in PVC and the local code allows it but we are at 5500 feet and I am a little worried about freezing and bursting for the first few feet of pipe after the meter before the pipe gets 3' to deep burial.  Any thoughts?

You should turn the line straight down out of the meter. Why not run pex?
