Seems to be designed for contractors....what advice is there for tax credits for owner building...can we get wind and insulation and energy credits and how hard will that be...and is it only if you file by long form?

The section Tax Credits for Home Builders does seem to be aimed at contractors, and only if they exceed the 2004 IECC by 50% along with other requirements.

From the cited website...  If you are building a new home, you can qualify for the tax credit for photovoltaics, solar water heaters, small wind systems and fuel cells, but not the tax credits for windows, doors, insulation, roofs, HVAC, or non-solar water heaters.

That applies to any newly constructed principle residence

Not sure about the biomass stoves?

A home is a place you call your principle residence. The IRS has guidelines that help define it. We have a friend who lives in his 5th wheel. He has no other home. Sometimes here, sometimes there. He is currently exploring whether or not the energy credits for a PV system will be applicable to his RV.
