I'm looking at buying or building my 1st house and like the plans on this site. I have been checking out the 14x24/16x28 and the 20x30 1 1/2 story. It seems that when referring to the 14x24 that it is very easy to build compared to the other houses. Other than size what is it that makes it so much easier to build than say the 20x30 1 1/2 story.
If I do end up building a house the vast majority of the work would be done by me working alone and hopefully be able to live in it by mid to late summer, so I can't get too hard or complex of a house.
Thanks

I beleive that the size is probably the only reason it is easier. It goes up faster, uses less resources, easier to manage materials (shorter rafters, shorter walls) etc.
The 20 x 30 is a great design, but it is basically just a bigger 14 x 24. The bigger it is the more work required to build it!!
Since you will doing most things alone, I would think the smaller the better!! Good Luck!!
w* to the forum.
It should be no problem to build the little house in that time frame.
Thanks guys,
I've been on here the past 6 months or so reading every new post that comes up and I finally had a question I hadn't seen answered.
I'm really liking the 16x28 easy little plan but am thinking maybe I would like another 1/2 story and do something similar to the main living area like in the Victoria cottage plans. If I would want the extra 1/2 story with the 4' or so high sidewalls would I be better off getting Victoria plans or just the other set for the 1 story and modifying it. I am also thinking about stretching it to 32 or 36 feet because I'm used to living in a big old farm house and might want the space on down the road.
Thanks

The Victoria is a nice plan with some extra room also. May save a lot of guess work.
Well, I would think any of the plans whose footprint is a rectangle would be easier than one with a wing (i.e., Victoria cottage). I would think the intersecting roof planes and different truss sizes would add some degree of complexity compared to a single "box" and one set of trusses.
