Title: 6x6 post to beam connector
Post by: deck99 on February 06, 2009, 06:13:30 PM
Hi,
Is there a good connector or connection method to sit a 6x6 beam on top of 6x6 posts?

Thanks,

deck

You might try Simpson.

Is the 6x6 post a rough or a finished dimension?

6" rough = a real six inches, whereas 6" S4S lumber = 5 1/2"

I used 6x6 rough posts. I wanted to use S4S smooth 2x planks for a built up beam. 4 layers of S4S 2x material = 6 actual inches, which matches the 6" rough cut post size. Then you can use Simpson post to beam brackets.

Don,
I was going to use 6x6's....they are 5.5" I believe.  Can a guys use some sort of a flat T piece on each side.  I assume someone makes a post cap tie for the 5.5"?

Thanks deck

Looks like simpson makes a nice AC fastener for 5.5" or 6".
