I went by the habitat store again the other day. They were having a buy one get one for free sale and they had a bunch of Anderson windows.
I did some dickering and got all of these and one more large one I haven't picked up yet, for $58.00.
The BIG Andersons were missing 2 sashes eaxh so I figured I'd make one out of the two. When I picked them up, I found the missing sashes. Two complete, huge windows. Even the small ones are large.
I love a deal ;D

Way to go, Peter! Glenn went to a local Habitat re-store & he said the used stuff was more expensive than the new stuff in regular stores - no good deals in our area (actually down in the valley).

There seems to be a lot of difference between stores Sassy. The one nearest me is in a very affluent area and staffed with wealthy volunteers. It is expensive and hasn't got much.
The one I go to is in Richmond. The area is the armpit of the world and I won't go there without a gun. It is run by paid people who have a habitat house.
It is chocked full of new or new "OOPS, I installed it wrong".....stuff, and the prices are great. They are also willing to bargain. The also run sales like the buy one, get one free sale I got the windows with, every week.
Peter, I think it is interesting that the store in the "armpit" is the one with the good deals... when we lived in Wisconsin, it was fairly affluent compared with the seedy little town we'd moved from in OK. On freecycle there, you could get great stuff... people would just throw stuff away, or it would be sitting out by the curb. DH just thought the 'rich folk' were too lazy to take stuff to goodwill. I had belonged to a freecycle group in Lincoln Co.,OK before we'd moved, and it was hard to find anything useful on there other than bags of baby clothes, or some used chicken wire, etc. People in WI would give away whole dining room sets or entertainment centers, etc. We got an entertainment center that way. Cost us nothing but the gas to go pick it up. Got a 150 gallon aquarium that way, too. Those windows are nice... I really like Anderson windows, and you got a heck of a deal on them. When we lived in our old place in OK, my dad brought us this HUGE argon-filled picture window that opened up at the bottom. He'd paid $10 for it in Home Depot. It was a special order that the people had cancelled, and they wanted it out of the way. We took it, intending to put it into the downstairs bedroom, but never got it done, so we gave it to my uncle and he put it in an old victorian house he was remodelling. Looked fabulous, and didn't cost him a dime.

Del Gew says it as he rides off for the last time.
It was a good movie but the real story is much better.
Johnson, whose real name was John Johnson lived a long life and did return to a town. In fact, he became a town Marshall for a while and died in an old folks home as did Del Gew.
The crazy lady whom Johnson had a fling with for years, was really Hatchet Jack's wife. Jack just got tired of her and left. That wasn't known until after Johnson died. Del Gew told it when he was interviewed in the Old Folks Home.
In an interview later in life, when asked about eating Indians livers (He was know as the Crow killer), Johnson replied....Sheeet....meat's meat!
Johnson did make good biscuits! They were so good that Indians used to break into his cabins (He had several) and steal them. He started putting rat poison in them so the cabin breakers would be discouraged. From what I gather...worked pretty well. ;D
