Been brownsing these forums for awhile now and i have been looking through different cabins that everybody have built and are building.
Quite fond of the Little house plans and probably gonna buy them little later. But anyways i have a question about the smallest design compared to the bigger ones, 10x14 cabin plan has a pretty much flat roof, bigger 14'x2 have have a higher roof with a loft and they look more like an actual house or a cabin.
Thinking about my individual skill and little labor i have available it would seem better to just build the smallest design but to make it longer, with that same flat roof. But being a complete newbie in building i dont know if thats such a good idea. Dont get much snow here in Scandinavia so the weight shouldt be a problem..thats pretty much the only downside i can think of. Should take less materials also to keep it as 1 story also
Having checked few more threads i quess it would be wiser just to make a normal roof but with a smaller angle.

I am not tht familar withthe cabin plans as mine is sort of "out of the box". But I am sure that someone will ping on your question. The biggest advantage is the available sleeping loft with the steaper roof. It could also double as storage.

I quess additional space wouldt hurt anybody, allthought i have such a huge patch of land so it could be easier to build somesort of additional shed next it, with less insulation and so on. Just as a concept i have been thinking like this http://www.hhd.it/inglese/s.html
not really sure if that doesnt really classifies as a cabin.
Everyone will tell you that it is probably more economical to build up rather than out. As far as insulation it will amount to about the same. To me it was a no brainer to add the second story rather than spreading it out. But the kids use the upstairs and I keep my bedroom on the ground floor with no stairs.
Yeah wouldt really be going for a second story, more like a tiny loft, propably far as i am willing to go would be something like this

w*, tvirta. I like the steeper roof even if it is a bit more work.
You might consider the Enchilada Plans kit for a variety of ways to build and put them all together.

It can be done individually or together or added a piece at a time.
We can talk you through the building process.
Yeah that seems awfully big, i think the basic 14' x 24 would do just fine. Sure i might need to expand it later but that wont be for couple of years atleast. So i think sticking to the more simpler plans wil be better.
You can do a lot with the Little House plans.
