OK, to be fair, here in the desert snow removal equipment is rare.
The city does have some sander/salter equipment but that's about all.
We have a free day off work. :)
As one who grew up in Canada it does seem ridiculous though.
It didn't stop the neighbors from heading off to work though. Oh, they're from WA state.
Oh, how much snow? This much...

That would shut Georgia down for a week.
My kids developed callouses on their knees saying novenas for school to be canceled today.
They do seem to err on the side of caution though. But APS has a little bit different territory to cover. They cover all the way up into the canyon east of town, and the heights. They don't fit the buses with chains, and a lot of the teachers aren't set up for icy travel either. I think they have to make a judgment based on the worst part of the district, as they screw up their schedule if they close some schools and not the other.
I heard on the news this a.m. that cars were slipping down 528 from RR into Corrales.
I like snow... always have. But I've never lived as an adult in an area that had lots of snow all winter long.

Are you in a Lake Effect snow band up there? How close to the big lake are you? Down here along Lake Michigan we get a good 1-2" every afternoon...
We are only a few miles from the lake, so we actually get less snow than those further inland. A lot of it hops us and gets dumped on the mountain ridge below. That doesn't mean we don't get our fair share, though. ;)
Many (not all ) city folk should not drive in the snow. Accidents happen even to those used to it. We had several slide outs here yesterday - one had 30 cars on Guadalupe grade.
We had 10" yesterday morning - a few left and freezing -- Cal-trans does not seem to be taking care of the highway. Maybe a budget protest?
