Title: Shallow foundation worked
Post by: Kevin on June 11, 2005, 06:11:26 AM
For all the people who wanted to know how my shallow foundation worked out with my shed roof cabin it appears to have worked great. The cold winter of Northern Vermont does not seem to bother it.
Recap:
All the loom and organic matter was scraped off when I clear the stumps.
I dug down just enough to put a layer of gravel(I used ledge stone) a couple of inches deep, and level all the blocks.
Next was the paver 16x16 except the corners I made them myself 21x21.
Concrete blocks to the level I needed.(8x12x16 for the middle ones and 8x16x16 for the corners.
Filled all the blocks with concrete and used simpson strong ties for anchors (PB66)

Once the blocks were in place I filled the area with more rocks till there was a small mound then I covered it with a good tarp, then covered it with a layer of dirt then some more rocks to keep the dirt from washing away. The tarp extended about 2 feet in all directions.

My cabin is on a slight slope with good soil.
