Title: Transfer switch mounting question...
Post by: NM_Shooter on November 21, 2008, 08:31:27 PM
I received via UPS, my transfer switch for my home today....

It says to mount the transfer switch to the right or to the left of the the breaker panel.  Does code allow me to mount it above or below as well?  I am planning on a flush mount installation and I don't want to have to drill a hole in a stud.

Thanks,

Frank

I believe the reason for the instruction stating to install to the left or right is that placing it above or below the breaker panel may violate height rules according to the NEC. I'm not at all sure, but something is banging around in my head about that.   ??? d* ??? d*

Sorry I didn't answer sooner Frank as I hadn't figured out the reasoning and am not in the code books much - only online, but - would it be so that the wires that need to be physically transfered may reach the  transfer switch without making a splice?  Just a guess.  hmm
