It would have a huge impact on me. I'm in the railroad business.

When the Janesville,Wi plant folds there will be a loss of over 20 rail jobs. And hundreds of auto workers jobs.  ???

Let's hope Congress holds their feet to the fire....the big three and the UAW alike.

I have a couple of warranties that might become worthless.

The impact would be huge, look at the impact on Michigan over the last few decades and exprapolate.  Along the same lines, look at any "mill town" or small country city with a single large employer.  The effects of it closing or outsourcing are devastating.  This is just a larger scale of that.  It will affect everyone. 

That being said, I see no reason they need to shutdown.  They need to go into bankruptcy, they need to be done with the union leeches that have drained every dime from the coffers, they need to negotiate better rates, they need to discharge debt they have no chance of repaying.  They need to reduce waste and strive to be more efficient.

I think they should save Ford and GM and let Chrysler go down, since we already bailed them out once.  And make sure those execs don't get paid millions while this is all going down!

As I recall Chrysler paid it back - no track record on the others, but I am still not sympathetic with the bailout.  These guys have been totally unresponsive to the public's desires even using engineered failure to increase their take from the American Public.

In the late 60's, the big three offered very,very good retirement packages which included health, dental, eye, etc, for employee's entire families.  Now, it's payback time and they can't make the payments.  This country is in desperate need of some type of affordable health care or we are in big trouble.  Many companies go under due to heath care costs.  The next to go are hospitals, and that will really scare America.  Currently, hospitals are losing money in their investment portfolio's, people do not want to spend money out of their own pocket to go to the hospital, and many,many people who go to the hospital can't pay their bill, so the hospital eats the cost.  It's really scary once you start looking into this.

I think you are right.  The lack of affordable health insurance is drowning our hospitals in medical bankruptcies and mandated ER charity.  We need healthcare reform sooner rather than later, or the whole house of cards will collapse.
