I saw a little bit of a staging detail in the past forums. What materials do you use for the legs, are they 2x4 in post holes or do they touch ground? 2x4's screwed into the framing of the cottage and connected to the legs with a 12" plank to walk along?
I just put mine to the ground, frog and extended the vertical 42 inches extra for handrails. Several planks if necessary. Attach to studs or a 2x4 scabbed on to the studs - use lag screws if necessary - diagonal brace ass necessary but fast and simple is good. Just double check for safety before use. I used 4 or 5 screw nails or a couple lags at the connections.

For wood we used what we had - low strength sawed 2x6s from an old on-site log - similar in strength to a good 2x4.

I am hoping this will be a big help with the 12/12 pitch.
I hope so-- It can be done on one side only but I always make mine similar. I did it on one side of my garage also - less the safety rail and it waas a 12/12. I made short brackets with 45 degree braces about 2 feet long on it. It will feel good. I also hooked my folding ladder over the top or you could build one from 2x4's for the job - padded with cardboard or carpet if necessary for metal -- .
