Title: kind of a funny little house
Post by: Homegrown Tomatoes on October 08, 2008, 05:54:00 PM
I hope this link works... here is a little house I think I'm going to have to go look at sometime this week or next... it looks a little skyscraperish, but what the heck.  There maybe some good things to glean from it, or who knows, I might decide to buy.

HT looks and sounds a little small for your growing family. 1 bedroom?

Looks pretty cool. The builder did a good job, looks like.

I do like it, the area looks pretty.

That place shows up as 432 square feet at two story?  216 feet per floor, and it looks longer than wide so thats roughly 12x18.  pretty small for even two people much less a family with children.  If you price it out I doubt you'll see more than a few k in materials total in that house total.  It has a well, septic, electricity.  I'd guess having those things worked out is worth at least 10k or so aside from the land.

I don't know what land costs in your area, but 40k for 5 acres is 8k an acre, is that a good deal for the area?

Not a great deal, any means, but I mainly want to check it out to see how they built it... my realtor doesn't have to know that, though!  Very rare to see a house that small around here that isn't at least 80 years old.

Oh, and if you look at the trees around the house, you can really tell how bad the ice storms were in this area last winter...I bet they had a lot more shade before last winter.
In a lot of the rural properties I've looked at, there are limbs down everywhere in the wooded area, so thick you can't even walk through it in places.... lots of kindling.

Let us know what you find out about the house after you check it out.  I kind of like it - thanks for sharing.

Home appears to be just east of Oklahoma City.  That upper deck would be useful for
spotting tornadoes . . .  :-*

It's cute!
Get them to knock ten grand off, add a 15' shed wing on each side and you'd have something.

I kind of like it too.  Thought of some of y'all with the cabins that keep growing when I saw it (not to mention any names, DON).  I bet originally they were just going to build a tiny little 12' by 18' with a little sleeping loft, and then the wife got a hold on the plans and said, "Oh, honey, couldn't we just build it a little taller to give us a little headroom up in the loft."  Next thing you know, they had a little mansion going.

looks like it'll be next week before I can go look at it now...realtor's BIL passed away over the weekend and now she's already had to juggle her whole schedule around, so I told her we could put it off.

I can understand her problem. If any of my BIL's passed away, it would take at least a month before I got all the celebration out of my system. :-X

The Harrah area isn't too bad. Close enough to Shawnee so you can avoid OKC. Cool little place.
I'm originally from McLoud, so it's pretty close to home.
