Title: Grinder

The forest service has a contractor thinning the forest right near us. I took these pictures today a very short distance from us... probably less than a mile as the crow flies.

He pushes a tree over and keeps on going. The tree is turned into shredded wood.

There are bits and pieces flying here and there but the bulk of the material comes out the bottom and the machine drives over it. The cab is not only protected by a very solid steel cage, but there are 3/4 inch lexan "windows".

Like a chipper-shredder on steroids!  Would make clearing a path through the woods a heck of a lot easier.

It was cool to watch it in action. It didn't even slow down, just pushed them over and gobbled them up. I should have thought to switch to video mode for a clip.  d*

They've done nearly a thousand acres this summer IIRC. We feel a little more safe regarding the fire danger now.  :)

Say what did ya'll think this topic called "Grinder" was going to be about?

Can it do double duty as a snow plow?

I thought maybe it was some sort of hand grinder to go in the doomsday kits when I read the subject.  :D

I worked for a company that made an alternative to that  -- contract work --- but it had too many problems.

They are cool though.

You would definitely want to keep your lips off of that thing.

What happens when it hits a rock?
