Title: Crop Circles and Strange Things.
Post by: Redoverfarm on September 02, 2008, 06:47:12 PM
Well I am going to have to stay home more often.  With most of the day watching paint dry I started to look around the house.  This is one thing that I never noticed before in the yard. Notice the mushrooms along the edge. Probably a good explanation for it but darn if I know what it is.

Although not that strange I was wondering how many of you have these in their neck of the woods.

One that I didn't get a picture of was two wasp walking around on the porch table. Neither had any wings.  Just making circle after cicle unable to fly.

Maybe the same thing that made the crop circle stold their wings.

Who of you have strange things going on around your house?

I have heard of the fairy ring, John ...and ....no - it doesn't just occur in San Francisco.

You know there are strange things around here too -- I saw one in my mirror this morning.  I was afraid to look again to see what it was. [crz]

The walking sticks are quite common here.  Wondered if they were elsewhere also.

Thanks for the Fairy ring info.  I was going to start watching the sky but now I can sleep tonight.

My pleasure, John, but before you come to San Francisco and find a fairy ring we need to talk.  You're good for now. [crz]

Walking sticks here are green rather than black like that one.

I see walking sticks around here all the time. No fairy rings though. Oklahoma is anti-fairy for the most part due to a high redneck population.

CF if you notice there is another circle above the one pictured.  It is only 1/2 but the Mushrooms are at teh edge of it also.  Strange.

des this one was drk brown it just didn't show up in true color with the camera. Odd creature and to think somewhere inside that little head is a brain.  Probably about the same size as most politicians.

that circle of super green tells me it has a higher concentration of nitrogen on the outside, likely the mushrooms breaking down some organic matter and releasing nitrates.  A few years ago I was helping someone in their garden and we were moving bags of fertilizer to the back; one of them broke open and a pile was dumped in the middle of the trail going to the back of the property.  Years later, that spot where it landed is always bright green and the areas around it are dull green or yellow.

we have lots of those walking sticks around here too.

I fought wasps around the house for years with the spray can.  Now I have a birdfeeder hanging in the back.  no more wasps.  If a nest shows up, I'll just move the birdfeeder close to it for a couple weeks.

What strikes me as funny isn't the fairy ring (speaking of which we've seen two on our street in the last week with all the rain) but the happy face inside it. ;D

You usually see them in pairs, Homey.  ::)
