Putting the boat in at Savanna, Il and heading to La Crosse, Wisconsin tomorrow. And we are taking the five month old grand daughter.........
My wife insists that it's OK.
I think I've lost my marbles, if I ever had any to start with in the first place.. d*
:) :)
Cool Sparks, got gas hmm
This thread is worthless without pictures! Let's have 'em.....
-f-
sounds like an awesome adventure. yes, post pictures when you can. I bet you have a lot of fun with your grand daughter.
We're home! Will try to get pics here when I figure out how to do it. They are all on a cheap camera. I believe they have to be transferred to a disc.......??
Had a great time!! :)
Disc would do it then load the files to Photobucket - Copy the bottom IMG tag line and paste it here to show the picture, sparks -- we're waiting. :)
Hope this works

Looks like you got it , Sparks and also looks like you are having fun.
For an added bonus if you click on one of those pictures a larger version will open in a seperate window.
Loooks like it was fun Sparks!
Thanks for the edit Mtn Don. I really didn't know what to think when the coding came up from p-bucket. Just winged it. Most of the pics are obvious (baby stuff), the one overlooking the Miss is at Marquette, Iowa across from Prairie du Chien, Wi. I wish we could have had more river/travel pics, but that camera (mine) apparently was bad from the start and we didn't know it until the developer said the whole roll was blank.??
A few numbers to crunch:
370 miles 130 gals. of fuel $4.30 avg/gal 559.00 for fuel.
Works out to 2.85mi/gal or $1.51/mi
Avg. speed 25mph@3200rpm
Works out to 2,880,000 revolutions over 370 miles
The locks; they are 600'x110'x avg lift/drop of 8'. That's 3,9600,000 gallons of water!
Of the ten lockages we made, six of them we did ALONE. Nearly 24 million gallons of water for little old me!
80 lbs of ice, a bottle or two of sunscreen, two cases of beer, two cases of water, countless diapers, three motels, breakfast, lunch, dinner (baby formula also)..........priceless moments...
For everything else there's.........CASH!!!! :)
Thanks for having a peek here ....Sparks and Family
We have a friend with a boat on Lake Powell, not a houseboat but a 32 foot something that moves along very nicely and has cabin space below. It's 454 V8 gets 2.0 MPG IF he does start and stop a lot. The wost he's ever got was 1.6 MPG. He's a record keeping maven.
$1000 weekends.
I have a couple of friends that own 30' plus with twin 454's (maybe 502's ???)--they're young punks trying to impress young punk chicks.
Gallons per mile!! And LOUD. Not my cup of tea!
What I (we) have suits me fine.....but a nice 14' flatbottom w/20 hp is a way to get away from it all...and fish. ;)
On Lake Powell a small boat like that is ideal for exploring all the little canyons.
i'm with you Don,
when i caught my 6# bass yesterday it was in a 15', old fiberglas, jon boat with a ted williams 5 hp motor. it won't sink or stop running so i keep on fishin' with it.
Cute kid, Sparks - looks like you all had fun!
Thanks Sassy, Hopefully the wife and I can provide enough for this little gal to have a chance in life. I really didn't believe that I would become a parent again in my mid 50's, but someone has to care for her.
Maybe she was placed into our lives for a reason.....and I'm not asking questions.
Did you see my 'parrot' in the last pic??
