Title: Help me identify this piece of hardware?
Post by: fritz on July 05, 2008, 08:46:52 AM
Gang, I know someone knows  what this is and where to get it.

This latch is on a screen door in a cabin in Wisconsin.  There was no one around I could ask about who put it on.

It is spring loaded and has two rollers.  When the door is closed, it keeps it latched against the wind.  When ou open the door, it springs out of the way.

I haven't found one in a hardware store (yet).  Is this a mobile home part?  Hardware item?  Some home invention?

fritz any hardware store should have them. They were common for screen doors in this area.  There is an old hardware in town that probably has some of the old roller latches. Only draw back was that it made a permanent indentation and mark on the door from the repeatedly opening and closing.

do you have a picture of the latch in profile, from the top or bottom?  Are you trying to replace it or find parts for the old one?

I own a hardware store, and have several of types of latches in stock, and can order from a huge selection as well.  Might be able to get the part number, and you could get one at the local ACE.

That was a hard one to find - I have seen them but describing it was rough.

You are right Glenn.  I looked in Renovators Supply ,Vintage Screen Doors and Constintines and never found.  They are common but not where I looked.

If you have an ACE Hardware nearby the SKU is 5299680.  Any other national chain (True Value, Do-It) can cross reference that number.

Looks like you have the goods on it now -- it was such a challenge I had to try until I found something. d*

Thank you all so very much.  I hoped it was a common item, but the blank lok for the clercks in the big-box stores told me I needed to go to the experts.

I'll check the ACE or the local small town shop.

Thanks all!
