Man can they make a mess!!!! Scraping the floor with a flat scraper works some but if you want to get it all only a vacume and mop can get the rest off the floor. I was POed big time when the rocker removed my plastic off the floor I had put down. He told me it got in the way and just slopped the mud all over the place and it took a week to clean it all up. Bet you won't hire anything else done...
Put down another layer of subfloor. It may sound excessive, but you get all you drywall, painting, etc done then have a clean surface for your flooring. I did this several times. Some was another layer of whatever OSB is cheapest, other times it was the gypsum pour for the radiant floor. If you do put down another layer, make sure its very well fastened or you will get squeaks as the layers rub.
Hope you didn't yet pay him in full.
My rule of thumb (on commercial jobs) is that each trade cleans up their direct mess. They don't have to pick up coffee cups, general sweeping or general debris. Of course, its best to have the conversation before they start work.
When we had dh's son put in the bay windows in our living room, he didn't cover any of the furniture or carpet - I had a major mess to clean up - had to vacuum & vacuum the carpet, walls, furniture - I have leather couches so after vacuuming, I also had to wipe down everything - what a mess [crz] n*
After all the drywall, wall and ceiling painting were done, I rented a big floor sander and ran it over the entire subfloor. Took about an hour and then swept it all up and was done. Worked out great.
