Title: How many nails?
Post by: GW on May 28, 2008, 05:17:36 PM
I'm getting ready to start my cabin in June, 400 sq ft studio with loft. Can someone give me a ball park on how many nails to buy? I'll be using a framing nailer , thanks.

GW haven't built in that size before but I would start with a full large box of 16d and 8d.  Might have to add to it some but it will get you well under your way.  When I started there was a special on galvanized so I went that route rather than regular nails.

I used allmost 50 lbs of 16 sinkers(framing) and 25 lbs of 8 gavinised nails(siding) to do my cabin. Probley another 15 lbs of nail gun #8s fo the plywood. Nails are the cheap part just don't run out and have to drive to town to get more and waste a day in the process. Mark

Make sure you have a sawzall to.  You be amazed how fast and securely to can nail something together wrong with a nail gun.  The glue on the nails is strong and hence the need for a sawzall with a wood and nails blade to cut those oops apart. d*

Also, if you got an extra case of nails, you could likely take the un-opened box back if not needed.  Better than running out when you have a crew waiting.
