I don't know how many of you read Alternet.org, but this article blew me away. It's about how statin drugs to lower cholesterol (and reduce heart attacks) are known to not be effective, yet they are still sold by big pharma and recommended by your doctor.

I've been reading about that for quite some time, Tony... I've had arguments with doctors about it - we have so many patients on statin drugs... my sister is a nurse practitioner & she says if you don't go by the recommendations you can be sued... I would never take a statin drug! here's a link to Dr Mercola http://www.mercola.com/article/statins.htm
One of my great-grandmothers on my mom's side used to live off fatback and salt pork. I think brown beans were the only vegetable she liked. Of course whole milk, real butter, fried eggs and ham or bacon and black coffee for breakfast every day, and she lived to be around 90. She never wore shoes, laughed out loud all the time, and was healthy up till the day she died. If that's what high cholesterol does for you, I'm not against it. ;) And she never too cholesterol lowering drugs.
Every time my husband goes to the doctor he tries to put him on Lipitor--he's borderline high with a good lipid profile. It gets old fast.
