I joined an Alaska gold forum, and found that they also have an Alaska Building forum.
For another place to check for Alaska building information and people who actually live there, here is a link.

I loved living in Anchorage. I miss it :(
This Thread (http://bb.bbboy.net/alaskagoldforum-viewthread?forum=7&thread=117) was one that caught my eye. It's about Permafrost Foundations.
I've seen these used back home in Canada. I'd forgotten all about them. :-[ You need a machine to screw them into the ground though to make the job go quick. A bear to hand screw into place. Google Techno Metal Post
Yeah -- I know we touched on that a bit. Seems some of their info could be useful to our members too.
I saw the helical piers on another site that I frequent. Since I may use a tracked skid steer to carry my materials in I could use it to drive them. I called a place in Eagle River and got some info. $1000 per pile average. Sorry, but that is too much for me. If you have DEEP pockets, they may be a great way to go. I am still looking for some. Possibly extras from a construction job.
LT.
Here is a page showing the Techno Metal post installation. I worked on one project where we use these. Possibly different brand but the same type.

The other Alaska Bilding forum. Where I found this wonderful site.

Cool -- and I see Jim Alaska is there on the prospecting section also. He does some other forums I am on. Helpful guy.
We used the screw piles for my job on Nantucket. It worked great since we only had a mini excavator over there that had to be heli-dropped.

That's cool, Daddymem. I was on a job where they installed a few of them. Idiot tweaker contractor thought random locations was OK - had to move a couple.
Nice job on yours. I'd hate to pay the Helo bill. Even if it was a black one. ::)
