We're moving again! This time we are buying a house in Knoxville, TN. Here is a picture of it. Its a wreck, but it will be awesome when we're done. craftsman built in 1920, 2900 square ft, soon to be returned to craftsman glory after several remuddelings. Anybody here in the Knoxville area?

Cool, hobbiest. Looking forward to updates on one more of your exploits. :)
That sounds like a fun project but I couldn't see the photo.

thanks Don. Limited time, and concentration last night, after 12 hours of work.
OMG.... I guess I did turn 60! I look at that wonderful house and think of how tired I'd be day after day of fixing it!! Well, lots of that my fault.... too many pizzas and fried chicken. Funny thing is I don't feel the same when I envision building a place... but fixin up is another matter for some reason.
WOW, the "bones" on that house are wonderful. I can envision it all straightened out and looking good. I love the lines, what a grand place it will be again....good luck!
Looks real nice, could be a showplace. Lots of hard work ahead for sure.
we already have a fairly good idea of what the floorplan will be, 3 bedrooms, two baths, and a small family room upstairs, living room, foyer, inglenook, dining room, game room (yes!!!), kitchen, laundry/mud, wifes workshop, office/guest bedroom, 1 bath on the first floor. This place is twice as big as anything we ever thought we'd be in, but some of the stuff is still going to be a squeeze in 2900 square feet. I don't have to have my game room, but I've been dreaming about it for the last ten years. I have the bathrooms designed, the inglenook, showcase staircase, and paneled wainscot. Its gonna take a while to be able to afford all of the hardwood for the trim, but we'll just have to see what happens. Work is already very promising down there, and we're getting the house cheap. In two years we could be mortgage free!
So...anybody down in east TN?
Amanda is in Tennesee some where, Jens - hasn't been here much lately. Jeffntenn is there somewhere. Don't know where and haven't heard from him in a bit. Christina is N. Georgia - could be close. Could be a few others nearby.
I'm about 3 hours. Christina is about the same. Tennessee_Pride and Jeff are really close.
The house will be great, but like Frank, the thoughts of a re-do make me tired. Knoxville is a beautiful area...you'll love it there.
would you be willing to share what a property like that costs in Knoxville? just curious as to values out that way.... if not i understand. tks.
$23,500. Will probably cost another 30k to finish, or more perhaps. I have 12k to get it livable. This was the cheapest one that I found, also happened to be the biggest and most interesting to me. There are several train wrecks in the area for 30k or so.
Sounds like a good deal, Jens. Can't buy a car for that.
I'm right down the road in Oak Ridge. Just look West for the radiant glow when the sun goes down in Knoxville...that's Oak Ridge. Thanks for moving to improve our community. We are part of the Knoxville (metro?) area. What is the neighborhood of your craftsman?
Tom
Parkside, or Edgewood, I think, not sure. Its on E 5th st. I need to get in touch with somebody from Oak Ridge Labs, and find out if we can be the residential guinnea pigs for their fiber optic lighting. Also going to do rain water reclaimation, grey water (maybe), solar water heater, and eventually PV as well. The lot is 100x140, and my wife is going to try to grow most of our vegies. Unfortunately, we can't have chickens there, but we are going to set up a deal with some friends to grow a flock of meat birds on their land, we can get fresh milk through them, as well as pork and beef. We want to show people that it is possible to live lightly, even when you have four kids and live in the city. Oh yeah...I'm gonna build a cob oven in the back yard too!
Sounds like fun, Jens. Do you have Kiko Denzler's Book? I don't have it but it is great for cob oven info...but not just ovens -- real works of art.
