John Edwards has a plan for universal health care http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2007/11/edwards-garnish.html
More Gov't interference, control, taxes... [noidea' [frus] [toilet]
Under the Edwards plan, when Americans file their income taxes, they would be required to submit a letter from an insurance provider confirming coverage for themselves and their dependents.
If someone did not submit proof of coverage, the Internal Revenue Service would notify a newly established regional or state-based health-care agency (which Edwards has dubbed a Health Care Market).
Those regional agencies would then evaluate whether the uninsured individual was eligible for Medicare (which covers those over 65), Medicaid (which covers the indigent), or S-CHIP (the State Children's Health Insurance Program which targets the working poor).
If the individual was not eligible for either of those existing public programs, the regional-health care agency would enroll the individual into the lowest cost health-care plan available in that area. The lowest-cost option could be a new Medicare-like public option or a private insurance plan.
The newly covered individual would not only have access to health benefits but would also be responsible for making monthly payments with the help of a tax credit.
Think of the bureaucracy & $$$$ involved to support this program!!! :o d*
Note that the above would then let them garnish your wages and in worse cases they would have the ability to confiscate your land. (Not specifically stated, but the things stated lead directly to this.)
Can you spell, "I'm mad as Hell and I'm not going to take this anymore."
Please have a look at this famous movie clip.

So we are mad as hell. What's to be done about this mess? The last time people in this country where forced to pay without a say so there was a revolution. That was over 200 years ago. The real power over the people is held by the media. How do you get access to a media that's controlled by the money that's created this mess? We build our cabins in the woods, disconnect from a system we can't stand and hope like hell they don't notice us hiding in the trees.

The Edwards plan is the most ridiculous thing I ever heard.
On a paranoid note, what a way to make sure the IRS is never abolished. No fair tax act, nada.
We don't need any new stinking bureaucracies. None. Don't need a John Edwards either.
Think about it -- this could take taxes up over 50% when you add the mandatory insurance requirement. I know people who don't make $600 to $800 in two weeks which is near what we have been paying for health insurance for 2 of us (for 1 month)- and we seldom use it. Makes me want to go for the big one just to get our money back.
Edwards must have insurance business ties.
Dang -- how did I know-- http://freepress.org/departments/display/20/2007/2690

Simple - follow the money - nearly everyone in high office nowadays has an inside deal going.
Edwards REALLY believes he is going to be elected....and he MAY be right.
I hear people all the time say they will NOT put a woman or a black person in the White House, nomatter who or how qualified the person is .... I am in the South, but before that false assumption is made....MANY of the people I hear talking like that have moved here from other areas of the US...The North East and the West Coast. The FEW Southern folks around here (who are not blind Republicans) seem to favor Obama over Hillary or Edwards....Edwards is in fact the last choice.....
It will be a shame if Edwards is correct in his belief....It will mean the country hasn't come very far in the last 40 years.(But then the country did actually elect Bush ...ONCE!!.....so maybe we're not very intellegent as a group).
We don't have much to choose from...as is usual, but this election may be the most important ever in our history. The election isn't just for the person to be President, but more important, for all the hundreds the President will appoint.
Healthcare is one of the most important issues of this election, but ... what will we do if the Second Ammendment is redefined by this "Bush" Supreme Court? People have feared the liberals would take the Second Ammendment ....the right of private gun ownership... away for years, but now it looks as though the terror-phobic neo-cons will collect our guns to "keep us safe". Look to Homeland Security (the Neuvo-Nazi branch of our government), and the Patriot Act (the Constitutional By-pass Act) when our LEGAL rights become ILLEGAL......and our military is used against us, the legal citizens of this country, to uphold the destruction of the Constitution...as well as the destruction of our SOVEREIGN Nation.
Thomas Jefferson fought for individual RIGHTS to be in the body of the Constitution giving the common citizen a "leg to stand on" AGAINST our own government, should it become corrupt. It was a hard fought struggle... and in the end, these RIGHTS had to be placed in a seperate document, The Bill Of Rights. These documents were seperated in order to reach a compromise that allowed the Constituton to be ratified in a timley manner. Two seperate documents of EQUAL importance to the Nation.....The First of these individual rights was, the RIGHT to FREE speech and the Second, the RIGHT to own (and use if needed ) arms to defend the others. An armed public is a free public.....IF the Second Ammendment falls, what about the rest of the Bill Of Rights? What about the Constitution? This is not a joke. Whether we would use arms to defend our rights or not is left to the individual....but WE HAVE THE RIGHTS....no other country on the planet has these rights.....Will we piss them away over the fear of terrorism???? Will we allow PHOBIA to forever change our Nation?
I would ask everyone to be diligent in their selection of a candidate.....THIS election is more than homosexual marriage, health care and taxes. It could very well be the Nation as we know it.
SORRY...I get carried away sometimes! d*
williet it seems to me that most of the rights you're talking about have already been lost. We already have gun control and have had for years. Do you really think you could put up a fight with a hunting rifle against the military? Free speach? Try talking open rebelion and see how fast you get arrested. You don't even have the right to a trial anymore. If they want to they can just lable you a terrorist and ship you off to a prison in africa. Bush has done more to sweep the constitution under the rug than any president in memory but he hasn't done anything that hasn't been already happening for over a century. Ben Franklin was right when he said the republic would be hard to keep. It pretty much ended with the cival war. What we have now is nothing more than legislative tyrany. Even the elections are rigged. Why do you think all the canidates for president suck? It doesn't matter who you elect the result will be the same until a real canidate can get on the ballot and have the funds to run a proper campain. I think it's odd that so many in politics have ties to big business and big money. Why don't we ever see a carpenter or a teacher running for office? Because they'd be cut to pieces by the media before they could even get started.
I can remember watching the waco tragedy live on TV years ago and thinking this can't be america when the APC plowed through the side of the building and burned it down. Then saw how the news was edited to show what the governent wanted us to see. But this America and this what we have to deal with. We can make the best of it or we can go around being bitter about a lost dream and shattered beliefs. Take care of you and yours as best you can and mind your own business is probly the best course at this point. The American empire is too huge to be affected by a few dreamers. A better system would be many smaller nation states instead of one huge goliath. Then a man or woman might have a real voice. This is the world we live in and this is the hand we're given.

So when this country comes to civil war its those who have guns that will win. I do not think the extreme lefties believe or even carry guns.
No problem, Stink -- if there is a problem, Heir Bush will declare Martial Law and bring the military and Blackwater in on us. We won't have enough guns. Haliburton has already built the concentration camps for dissenters along with other places that will be made use of.

I think I have to differ with you on that Williet. He was installed into office by the supreme court first. He was kept in office by computer fraud in the second election. He has never been elected.
It doesn't matter though. As Scott A said, you will not be allowed a choice that isn't controlled by the shadow government. As you saw with the recent takeover by the dems, they are all on the same page -- Pelosi said no impeachment as soon as they got there. That was not the will of the people. The people are being ignored and they continue to profit on both sides of high office as they wish.
Hmmmm, well when I fight I fight dirty. I bite and will punch in the no punch zone, if ya know what I mean ;)
Way to go, Stink. Take a few of them down with you. Slug 'em in the huevos. [crz]
I am very confused with that word. Does not that mean eggs? and if so why would I punch a woman there? I mean really for a woman you punch somewhere else....A man has no eggs, so why do they call down there that?
You must study your Spanish Slang, Stink. Yes - eggs. Soon the south western half of the US will be part of Mexico.
It refers to a man. It refers to where a dirty fighter would probably hit. PNW people would probably call them the family jewels. ;D
I grew up in Los Angeles, and my Spanglish isnt that bad. I just never got the logic to it.
Like, Dude I grew up in the San Fernando Valleyyyy.....Totallllyyy. Fer Sure.
That's right - I keep forgetting.
No logic - just slang --like Rocky Mountain Oysters to an Oregonian.
You mean Rocky Mountain Oysters?
Never had that or Haggis. How about you?
Yup -- and I just couldn't do that -- I could barely take a taste of brains, and I don't think I would put anything called Haggis in my mouth. :o

I'llgo with that. The first election was outright fraud and the second was questionable....I was giving him the second trying to be nice.
They're also trying to take away our ability to purchase vitamins, supplements, herbs etc.

Bad thing about the so called elections is that there are no real choices -- it's bad or worse. Elections are only to make you feel guilty because you thing you had a part in voting the bastard in, or to make you feel that he was voted in fair and square.
Elections are nothing but a hoax to help the shadow government keep a handle on the people. the people do not for the most part want to feel that they are being had so badly by their government. They want to believe that the system works and do not want to see that it doesn't.
It works alright - keeps them under control while the criminals in office steal them blind, of money and freedom and send their sons and daughters to die in an illegal, immoral undeclared war.

SASSY.....somebody's got to keep us safe!
Somewhere sombody's overdosed on sage, you know? Water will be next (oops! water's already regulated). IF the FDA has it's way...any and all foods will be by prescription only.....look what that would do for the insurance industry...and think of the actual work it would provide for Home Land Security. They could enter any house to look for a food prescription.....and they might find a terrorist!
The FDA...another branch of the government that's too full of its self to do the job they were created for...make sure our food supply is safe.
It seems anytime our government, local, state and federal actually has to do something...it just makes more regulations. No work...just rules and penalties. Tax to pay for the regulation makers and fines to pay for the enforcers....Why not allow some freedom and cut back on the tax and fines?
But this is about insurance...I forgot. Yep, we need universal insurance...birth to death...just because. It should be one of the handouts that Americans get...a benifit of being a LEGAL citizen. The government could share the wealth with the folks who make it.
Williet, you've written some masterpieces - ya otta run for office ;D You still have some hope, like I'm trying to hold on to... ScottA, you sound like Glenn.. :-\
Last night I was talking to one of the police officers at work - 1st time we really talked about the state of the nation & world, he was about ready to handcuff & lock me up, I had upset him so much by questioning things [shocked] Now, whenever I'm working he stops by & asks me "what's new?" Last night I gave him a few articles - a couple by retired police officers & one about the "Thought Crimes" bill HR1955 that the house passed in October & the senate is supposed to vote on soon. His eyes are getting opened REAL fast! c*
SCHIP will allow illegals to sign up...

A stupid law is just a piece of paper until a stupid person enforces it....My HOPE is that no matter what these airheads in Washington do....somebody in actual law enforcement... police, national guard, reg. military.... will take a stand for what's right....my FEAR is that those who are charged with enforcement are more dense than the ones in Washington.
As I've said before...only Joe Biden and Ron Paul are honest enough to restore the legal Constitutional rights of citizens...and neither has a chance of being elected.
All of the other candidates may run their mouths, but none...Dem.or Rep.will return powers already given to the Executive branch.
Right on the topic here....
A story on todays ABC Evening News deserves a notation:
Socialized medicine may sound un-American, but in fact, it's exactly what we provide to our American heroes -- the more than 5 million armed forces veterans and their families.
They get health care that the government both pays for and delivers. It's the Veterans Affairs Healthcare System, and according to health care experts such as Phil Longman -- it's become one of the best health care systems in the country.
So how did the once-maligned VA transform itself?
"First and foremost, by pioneering electronic medical records," Longman said. "Which is a much bigger deal than it might sound."
The Full Story... (http://abcnews.go.com/Health/story?id=3991225&page=1)
the story ends with... Study after study puts the VA system at the very top for fewer medical errors, for effective treatments, for lower costs and for patient satisfaction. And the VA delivers all of this for at least $1,500 less per year per patient than Medicare.
Maybe there is real hope that a national system could be made to work.
Glenn...where I grew up they claimed to use everything on the hog but the squeal. I kind of like brains and scrambled eggs ::)....I haven't worked myself up to Haggis yet though.
Do you really think you could put up a fight with a hunting rifle against the military?
Actually Scott, the old deer rifle is a very good weapon for that type of fighting...The term is shoot and scoot.
It's not the lack of weapons that keep us from beating government troops back. It's ego and lifestyle. That's why I poopoo at the militia movement. They've had numerous opportunities to step in. Waco being one. They march around, talk tough but when it's time to pull the trigger, go home. They sure have the talk but not the walk.
Most people have never been in a gunfight. Most people have an exaggerated ego about their abilities and won't train.
Most people won't give up their lifestyle so they won't push that button.
Most Viet Nam Vets can tell you that it's just plain no fun and a civil war here would be 10 times worse. No real supply, few safe zones...on and on.

One of the ways the VA saves money is on the pharmaceutical drugs - they have contracts & get the drugs at a fraction of the cost that the private sector gets them. If Medicare & Medical would negotiate & get the drug prices down, it would make a big difference. The electronic record has really helped - the VA was the pioneer in that field. In fact, I was sent to 3 conferences/workshops around the country to learn more about the process & help with the training at the hospital when we 1st went "paperless".
Being a Viet Nam vet and uninsured I had some hope that I could get some help there if I ever need it. Since I have never needed it I haven't really looked into it. That probably sounds pretty strange.
I have never been a proponent of socialized anything. But as far as the VA goes I did pay the established dues.
Social programs open the door for many types of system abuse. And of course we are handing control of our fate over to the government once again. When I look at the uncertainty of the Social Security system I cringe. We of the boomer generation are many. The next generations are smaller which places quite a burden on fewer people. And those people are our offspring.
Do we really want to create another level of socialism? I don't know the answer.
That's the delima (how the heck do you spell that ??? - even my spell checker can't find it d* ) I feel about socialized anything - in all the cases I've seen, the gov't just screws things up & it costs several times more than it should. But now we allow the monopolies with health care, banks, etc which also causes price increases - don't know what the answer is, either.
Ron Paul suggests "health savings account". Those are already available but the down side is that if you don't spend all the tax deferred money you set aside for the year, you lose it. IMHO I say you should be able to roll it over to the next year - that's the only reason why we haven't gone to that type of health "insurance". Don't know if that is what Ron Paul's plan is. I'll have to read more about it...
social security was perfect.. it was working and they had enough money in there for anything that could happen...
that is until Bush and cronies decided that they could take 8 trillion bucks out of the fund for the Iraq and afghan wars....
there is nothing wrong with social security... other than the money was stolen from the fund...It is a great idea and the math is solid... it works in the rest of the civilized world and it was working perfectly here too.. until the robbery occured.
Health care...cradle to grave ...just because we're American CITIZENS.....the country can afford it and there's NO excuse not to have it......
Socialism-I am with you Sassy. My gut screams no and my wallet screams yes. I guess they have me right where they want me. d* It all sounds good going in but it takes quite a while to get the final bill. We have an ample supply of politico's to refine the system (and abuse it as Peter stated) as it progresses.
I have a friend who often comments that she wishes she qualified for Medicaid. ;) there is nothing wrong with the level of care for Medicaid recipients, either.
