Title: The price of lumber is coming down
Post by: peter nap on September 26, 2007, 04:09:34 PM
On the wholesale level. It just isn't coming down in the retail stores.

I'm doing my ceilings in tongue and groove pine so I needed 1x4's to run through the shaper. I bought two bundles (480 to the bundle) pf 14 footers for 1.62 per board, dressed and kiln dried.

This was through a wholesaler.

Some of the other DIY'ers here might want to check the mills for pricing.

I guess the big box stores are still using up their surplus.

Same company I got these from will sell me 16 foot 2x4's for 3.02.

Looks like this sucker's going to come in under budget after all.

This is good. Supply and demand. Home Depot's sales must be off. I keep getting mailings to charge stuff, no interest, no payment for 100 years or so. They have to keep the goods moving so that is good for the consumer. Of course all of the special offers will have to run their course and existing inventories sold before the price changes surface.

wish I could wait.  put out my bid list today for the garage/room atop.  I expect materials arround 8 K.  Right now Home Depot will beat anybody's price by 10% though.  You know I am getting bid from our low end big yard and rushing over to HD.
