Title: Changed the plans....Again
Post by: peter nap on September 24, 2007, 03:31:23 PM
I've been driving the sawmills nuts. I finally found one that will sell me 1X6 rough cut (green} Fence boards, oak, 16' long....for .32 a linear foot.

That knocks about 500.00 off of my siding cost. The price is so good in fact, I have decided to use them as the girds instead of 2X4's. I may even set some aside to dry until spring and run them through the planer for flooring in the lofts.

Anyone see a problem with that logic?

We had one person here or referenced here that did use oak.  It worked.  It may be difficult to nail dry.

Unstamped and graded lumber will not meet codes but if none to meet and you are happy with it it should be possible.

Thanks Glenn.

I've gotten lazy in the last few years and use a nail gun so I doubt nailing will be a problem. There aren't any code requirements but I try to stay a little above code except on the silly things like stamped and graded lumber.
