Title: Power pole close to shallow well??
Post by: skiwest on August 21, 2007, 09:44:45 AM
Wondering if I should be concerned locating a power pole close to my shallow well.  Well in sandy gravel , highest water level get in spring is 8 feet from grade.  Is there a concern with chemicals from pole getting into water?

Could locate pole about 80 feet away and bury line past well to cabin.

or

could put pole in hole, put sono tube around pole, back fill around tube and fill space with concrete

or

Use steel or concrete pole

any thoughts

It could be a concern.  Rain runoff will go down the pole and directly into the groundwater.  Creosote Kool-Aid anybody? :-?

If it is sandy gravel that shallow then you are drinking surface water that has come through enough filter material to be purified, but it could still be polluted by pole treating chemicals.

Concrete or steel or steel with a concrete base should all be OK.  The alkali in the concrete would dissipate fairly rapidly. :)
