But I watched "The Last Mimzy" today and it's set on Whidbey Island. I thought it was neat I "knew" two people located there. Have you two seen it, Paul and John? I wonder if you recognized any of the houses or settings. I really have no idea how big Whidbey is.

Nope never seen it , but funny you should mention it Emily our family friend Glenn & Sassy met down in Tahoe also had never heard of Whidbey until she saw the movie you mentioned. So she was stoked to hear of it again , well sorta ::)
There's been a few movies parts shot here , Snow falling on Cedars , I think some of The war of the Roses , with Deveto , Douglas , Kathrine whats her name Ross ?? , both come to mind.
Makes a few bucks for the towns / Island , building owners get some new paint as they paint the building the color they want them for the shot , then repaint to org. color when they're done .
Whidbey is the largest island in CONUS , Long Island was "down graded" to a pennsular(sp) a few years ago . :) Whidbey's about 80 miles long , and varies in width from less then ( about ) 1/2 mile in one spot to maybe 5 or so wide at it's widest.

The bridge, one of the scenic wonders of the Pacific Northwest, is actually two spans, one over Canoe Pass to the north, and another over Deception Pass to the south. Construction began in August 1934, and the completed bridge was dedicated at noon on July 31, 1935. The Wallace Bridge and Structural Co. of Seattle, Washington provided 460 tons of steel for the 511-foot Canoe Pass arch and 1130 tons for the 976-foot Deception Pass span. The cost of construction was $482,000.
That close to where the lake is as well deception Pass state park , most visited park in Washington state :( Friggin tourist ;D
