Title: Attaching Joists to "Ballooned" framing.
Post by: BuildItUrself on April 25, 2007, 10:11:29 PM
I have one question for y'all.  Do any of you have any close up photos of exactly how you attached the second story joists to the "ballooned" framing on the 1 1/2 story buildings?  Just curious how that works.  I have a basic idea about how to do it and I was hoping that someone could enlighten me on the process.

I'm pretty sure that this is the way we will be going when we start our home as the arguments about the knee wall creating a hinge problem worries me and the taller studs just seem to make sense from a physics point of view :D

thanks in advance for any info.

I couldn't find the letting in ledgers thread either >:( Burried to deep I guess ;D

This job had a joist on each side of 4x6's for a look the architect was trying to achieve.

The ledger is a 2x6 , 5/4 x6 or 1x6 could also be used . The 2x6 is 1/8" to thick by code  ::) so if your held / building to IRC 2003 or newer use the 5/4 , or 1 by option .

I knew you'd have something about this PEG.   :)

I also found the thread with your old buddy in it.  What a pain he was.  ;D
