Title: Drywall fire ratings
Post by: Chuckca on February 18, 2007, 04:42:40 PM
Does anyone know the fire ratings for 1/2 and 5/8 drywall?  Also, what is the correct name of the drywall that you must use as a fire break in the garage?  What would that fire rating be?

Thanks
Chuck

5/8" Type "X" is what is normally called out for fire protection purposes (a one-hour rating if I remember right). That might include the ceiling of a garage where habitable rooms are overhead, or an understair area used for storage.
