Title: Floating Deck
Post by: optionguru on February 11, 2007, 11:07:05 AM
I want to build one of those 10ft x 10ft floating decks at our lake front camp for the kids (and adults) to play on.  Has anyone built one of these?  I thought about building it with pt 2x8's around the outside with pt 2x6 joists 2 ft apart and pt decking on top.  I was going to use a 55 gallon plastic drum in each corner for buoyancy.

Please tell me if I'm wrong, nuts or way off with anything I've mentioned.
Thanks,
Peter

Peter....I built a fishing deck here on the bank...actually it is out 15 feet from the bank with a ramp going out to it. I used pt 4x4's and the pt decking...looks good and still standing after 2 years....the problem is, are you going to leave yours in year round or remove it in winter.....the ice will reak havoc on it....mine is leaning a bit to the west from ice build-up last year.....but all in all, it ain't going nowhere... 8-)

Try this on for size, Peter.

See more conversation on the separate topic "floating boat dock". In my experience you'll find 10x10 with barrel floats very unstable (which seems to be fun for the kids)
