Title: Nails
Post by: Micky on March 02, 2005, 04:45:51 PM
I finally get to start framing this weekend....

I just bought a PC framing nailer.  Since the nails come in such large quantities, I am trying to figure out the nails to buy.  .

Following the typical nailing schedule, I would use 6d ring shank for flooring and sheathing and  8d & 16d for framing.

Is it acceptable to use 8d nails instead of the 6d.  If so, would you use 8d ring shanked or common?

Thanks

You would be beter off using 8d for your flooring.
And 12d is fine for framing.

I like ring shanked- they have about ten times the holding power.

Also if you haven't used an air nailer before, watch out for the business end, it's quite easy to make an extra bounce and stick one in your hand.  Mine has got 2 people.  Not me yet. ;D
