I have been using a big (50'x25') poly sheet as a way to keep rainwater off the top my excavated site, but now that I am getting ready to backfill, I do not have a use for this sheet. It has many holes from getting beaten and battered in the fall winds (catching on things, etc), so the utility as a vapor barrier is not practical. Do any of you have ideas of ways I can extend the utility of this?
Thanks for your creative thoughts.
It could be buried under the backfill as a barrier to surface water that is headed for your basement. Even with a few holes it will prevent most of the runoff from getting below it. It will not deteriorate underground. I use it to help keep the underground complex dry. It has been suggested to do thie even 10 or more feet around the house. A foot or so of top soil over it will still allow plant growth. Even though underground, slope it for proper drainage.
I was thinking about this, Glenn, but I really appreciate the affirmation that it is a reasonable practice.
