Ever forget how to tie a knot or need to know so you can tie all those building materials to the roof of your Beamer?
This will show you how. :)

I keep needing the trucker's hitch.

A good book if you can find it is "The Arts of The Sailor". The author was a superb artist and his drawings and explanations are very easy to follow.
This one--looks like it might be a Dover publication, relatively inexpensive, good paper.

That's it. The drawing are great. I've had mine for 25 years or so. My daughter took it to college with her because she likes the decorative knotwork. Rope Mats, Turk's heads and so on. When I lived on a boat I set out to learn one new knot per week, and then went out of my way to use it a lot in the following week. That was a long time ago but I can still recall quite a few of them. The temptaion is to try to learn a bunch of new ones at once, but unless I used them I quickly forgot them.
The "Encyclopedia of Knots and Fancy Rope Work" is far more comprehensive but it's a lot of money and the drawings aren't as good.

Use it or lose it!
I still can't ever remember the trucker's knot.
(by the way the animated knots lets you watch the knot forming step by step, and if you mess up what you're doing on your lap, you an go back stepwise until you figure it out)
What do you want that truckers knot for, Amanda -- wanna tie up a trucker? :-/
Either that or tie something down--the neat thing about the trucker's hitch is that there's very little hauling on lines and the thing ends up close onto guitar-string tight. The first time I saw it it was to tie a motorcycle into a truck bed.
Yeah- it's a really handy knot - I use a version of it quite often - whenever I use rope instead of straps or chains. :)
