I am located in india. I have a small pice of land in one of the hill stations in india. Now I would like to construct a new cottage. Can anyone help me with this. i have a land measuring 1500 X 2000 feet. I would like to construct a house with an atick. It should have four rooms, one kitchen with dining, room,one bathroom,sitting room, small study. I do not know how to go forward with designing. master and guest room should have attached bathroom.

Hello, dhuppi. Welcome to the forum. It is probably easiest to take a set of plans such as the ones John has and modify them to fit your needs. His plans are very reasonably priced and will give you a safe structure that is easy to build.
Since you want rooms added to the main rooms and an attic the Big Enchilada Plans might be a good choice. The plans tell you everything you need to know about building your cottage and we are here to help with questions. John also has a special support section for people who purchase plans from him.

Do you have access to lumber and supplies for this style cottage? It is my understanding that wood is in short supply in some areas of India.
Earthbag or, if you're in a grain-growing area, straw bale??? Too many to think about links for straw bale.
There's been at least one earthbag structure permitted in a public building--I think--in a highly seismic area of California. Although part of that was because it was dome-shaped.

How is the climate? (temperature, humidity, precipitation, wind direction)
Sun exposure and orientation?
Is it similar to a US climate zone?
Does the land has some special characteristic?
(view, inclination, access, vegetation)
What resources and materials are available?
(wood, stones, pre-used material)
What are the builder skills?
Specially in a developing country it is a good idea to start with a lot of information, so you optimize your efforts and avoid costly mistakes down the road.
