Title: Spiral stairs on tile flooring question
Post by: patrickgowan on October 11, 2024, 05:08:10 AM
Hello,
I am remodeling my kitchen and will be reinstalling my spiral staircase. Can I install it directly on top of the new ceramic tile flooring?
The tiles are 12" x 24" ceramic tiles and will be installed on a crawl space foundation of 2 x 10 joists spaced 16 inches on center with 23/32 tongue and groove plywood over lapped with 19/32 plywood and 1/4 hardiebacker board subfloor. Should this be sturdy enough or will the tile and or grout crack?

It'll crack.
If you put a post on a footing directly under the spiral's post, then nothing is bending. I'd still install the stair first and then cut the tile around it and use sanded caulk for the grout line against the post (change of materials).
