Here is a very interesting Design and planning tool. It is a condensed and more accessible version of the Pattern Language of Chris Alexander. (LINK to REVIEW (http://www.countryplans.com/books.html) of this book at middle of page)

Jacobson was one of the co-authors on A Pattern Language.
I think I have--and don't particularly like another book by him (and at least one more co-author from the Alexander book), something about contrast in design--too many pictures of expensive houses, well, that his firm had designed.
On the other hand, I think I read something he wrote that was published on another list that sounds more like this book, and IIRC was nice and is unavailable today because the archives went bye-bye when they changed hosting agencies.
