Title: Simpson braces
Post by: Greg(Guest) on April 25, 2006, 06:42:42 AM
I am just starting on my 1-1/2 story and would like to know if the Simpson t-braces need to go on one or both sides of each post.  Also how long do the 5/8 lag bolts need to be.
Thanks.

First, sorry I didn't see this earlier.

Second, I assume you are asking about the Alternative Bracing of the post and pier foundation on Sheet P-1? (This and the brackes are suggested for taller posts (4'-6' above grade)).

Simpson doesn't call out the depth of the bolts since they are working in shear and can fit different sizes of material, but you can't go wrong with a bolt that goes 3/4 the way into the beam or post. 4" would be about right to my mind. Drill a pilot hole so you don't split the post.

One side only.
