Title: New member egress window build question
Post by: fuzzymaster on December 29, 2016, 11:06:35 AM
So, hello, I'm new here. I read some posts and thought the site looked pretty informative. I have a dilemma with getting an egress window in an attic. The attic is being finished off. I,ve been through all the egress window makers and they cannot build one to fit in the space I have. I,m thinking I should be able to build a in swing casement window with swing clear hinges to meet code. I have a friend who has a great carpentry shop and is pretty good.
Question...do you think this is possible and any other advice, ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Do any opening Sky-light windows meet egress requirements?

That should work. Don't forget to check the hazardous location restrictions in chapter 3. I'm guessing you might need tempered glass.

I tried the skylight idea, and they don't allow that. The window will open onto another lower roof line, no electric lines or hazards. Alright so far sounds like a go.

I put in an order with these folks today for some windows I'm renovating, they might have something helpful.
