Title: 1/8 inch hardware cloth for fire ember intrusion
Post by: Dave Sparks on June 05, 2014, 09:36:47 AM
Any great ideas on how to install 1/8 over existing 1/4 inch cloth?  I was thinking of needle nose pliers and just bending the wire to fasten it.
A staple gun might not look as good but would be easier. Another fire season and nice when it is over!

Lace together with spooled craft wire?

I don't know exactly what your application is---roof vents?  Crawl space?  In any event, if there's any way to offset it an inch or more, it will be much more effective an ember barrier.  Can you build a frame out of 1x1's, staple the 1/8" cloth to it, and friction fit it inside the other?  That way you can take it out every few years to clean out the cobwebs and such

The application is soffit vents 5" x 14".  The vents are 20 feet up on a ladder and so I will just do this once . I like the idea on lacing from JRR as it will look nicer on the two that are over a deck where you can see them.  I probably will just staple the others. Thanks !
