Title: School security
Post by: NM_Shooter on December 23, 2012, 12:10:08 AM
OK.  So how do we provide for better security in our schools?

Short of a maximum security lockdown facility, how do we fix this?

Interesting article. Something that has been addressed before.

A good start would be by looking at the real world in true color.

That won't happen though so we might as well look at things that sound good and won't work.

I got this link in an email 2 days ago: Why you don't see school shootings in Israel:

Amen!   c*

Teacher?  Parent?  Security Person?

She most likely knows what it is and how to use it as well!

Yep...welcome to the real world.
BUT...we'll continue to pass laws, put cops in schools, metal detectors, have the eggheads develop mental stability profiles and try to close gun show loopholes.

The kids will suffer, the nuts will laugh and the only way to give your kids real security will still be home school in this country.

We can give all the stylish speeches we want, but things are still the same as they have been since man came into being. The only to prevent violence is to be capable of and willing to, be more violent than they are.

I agree with the Israel picture. I have yet to hear about a terrorist breaking into their schools and killing children. I see the reason for that.

I don't believe we can make any real impact on school safety without armed guards.

To keep the financial burden at a minimum, I suggest that we use our National Guard, Military Reserves, and active military (when available) to guard our schools.

Many of my friends who are/were military, said that most of the time, they were bored out of their mind.  One of my friends was a missile technician, who spent the vast majority of his awake time in service playing ping pong.

I would bet that school duty would be good duty, and that our military people would be honored to assist.

We use our military in foreign countries to protect local infrastructure there.   Hospitals, transportation centers, schools.

Why not here?

A side benefit would be the ambassadorship that the military would bring to the schools.  I think a perfect example of discipline is a soldier guarding a post.

I'm not keen on having police as armed guards.  I believe too many of them are under trained.

Thoughts?

I agree NM_Shooter, However, I suspect you will have those schools have a fit. Some high schools have in the past kick out recruiters, so I am not sure it would win all over, unless it is a school that is in close enough proximity to a previous school shooting.

Nothing is 100% safe and I don't think there are any good answers.  As long as we remain a free society there is always a danger of another shooting.  We could ban guns and the danger is a stabbing.  If we ban knives the danger is a bomb.

One solution is tougher punishment for violent crimes, as well as better access to mental health.  I don't think the billions spent imprisoning citizens for pot and other small amounts of recreational drugs have done much to stop illegal drugs.  I don't suggest legalizing them but maybe a heavy fine instead of prison.

We should leave the prisons for the violent offenders.

If you think about it, a strong, determined man could wreak havoc with anything in a classroom- even his bare hands. A strong, visible deterrent is about the only thing that would really help. Even then, it would be useless against something like a car bomb. Meanwhile, the media over-saturation has signaled to nut-jobs and terrorists that killing children is a great way to become famous and disrupt society. Maybe we need to do something about THAT.

What to do?

Close the state run childhood indoctrination centers?

Repeal disarmed victim zones?

Require ALL public officials to be disarmed and without their own security? Like live in the real world with everyone else?

just some reasonable suggestions...
