I really liked this little machine......the first and only I've ever owned........I've learned a lot with it.
About two weeks ago it showed signs of a red shift in the start up screen, then it got even more bizarre.
Several flashbulb type flashes.......and now the screen is toast.
I upgraded the RAM a few months ago.....worked wonders.
I'm using a 17 inch monitor plugged into the 600m just to see what I'm typing,,,,,the innards of the 600m seem to be OK
I know I'll have to get a new laptop some day...however, I think I'll get this old girl a new screen ...just to tinker with her.....I don't think she'll complain....... :)

Interesting, Sparks.
The HPs have an inverter chip that converts the AC to DC for the screen. I had one going out - got the chip but decided to upgrade the computer before I installed it.
I just upgrade every couple of years though I think know I will skip any Windows 8 machines minimum until they come out with touch screens at a reasonable price. Win 8 is a touch screen program that is extremely clunky on a non touch screen laptop..... tried it...didn't like it. If you don't have a touch screen I don't recommend getting it.
Just finished installing the new screen in my 600m and it's as good as new. A bit dicey prying the cover off and plugging those mini-connectors in......whew! And the screen is cleaner than it's been in the last five years!
I know I'll have to get a new laptop someday, but I really enjoy tinkering with this old gal.
