Title: masonry adhesive
Post by: jhivy on September 26, 2012, 01:05:43 PM
Does anybody out there have any experience with masonry adhesive?  Pros/cons?  I'm pouring my footers tomorrow and am curious about the stuff for my block walls.  Seems like it would be easier than mortar for a diy guy.  Thanks.

If by "masonry adhesive" you mean surface bonding cement, yeah, it's good stuff.  And, so long as you're not restricted by codes, I think it is indeed the way to go for a DIYer.

Though I would make the suggestion that if you're going to pour any of the cores of your blocks that you do so BEFORE you surface bond.  As the concrete sets up, it'll knock your blocks a little out of whack compared to where they're at when you pour.  And that'll be enough to cause cracks in your SBC.
Don't ask me why I know this... ::)
