Title: Fascia Board
Post by: Squirl on September 06, 2012, 03:59:02 PM
I am putting in my roof now.  I was going to cut the fascia board.  I was planning on making it a 1x4.  I figured it would be easy to lift in place and 4" seams more than enough for gutters. It just seems so small though.  Should I go bigger?  Any disadvantages to it?

I like to use a 2x (2x6 or 2x8 depending on scale of roof). You can also put a 1x over a 2x4 backer that will keep thiings straight and provide plenty of bite for gutter screws.

It would depend on your soffit as well.  If you planning on using soffit just make sure that your fascia is wide enough to cover that edge.  If it were mine I would not go any less than a 6" (5-1/2").
