Title: Cantilever beams
Post by: alex trent on August 01, 2012, 09:14:00 AM
Is there a formula for cantilevering beams as there is for joists...or can some one just provide the info.

Two 2x10's in each girder and three across a 15 foot span.  One story and no ridge beam support...just the end wall.

Can I cantilever the 10" over the end of the support posts and build the wall over the cantilever section?

If I understand your design you have built-up double 2x10 beams supporting floor joists and you want to cantilever 10" past the support post to carry the end wall load on the joist and beam.

That would be plenty strong. You can normally cantilever a uniform load on a joist or beam the depth of that joist or beam before you even start to calculate the load as a cantilever.

Thank you.
