it's an old Bob Wills song... something I grew up with.  but he kinda made it his own...  as it should be.

Thanks Muldoon mighty nice.....  For those that like Doc he will be at MerleFest, Wilkesboro, NC.  He will be on stage Fri twice, twice on Sat. and once on Sunday.  I keep thinking some day we will make that event.

There's a few people you know who it is on the first note, Doc is one of those  :) He and Merle played around the state alot when I was growing up. For awhile I had one of Doc's cousins playing oldtime on tape from a festival I worked in 76, fun stuff.
Bob Wills puts the "ah hah" back in my speech.

If you have a streaming connection our local radio station plays good music in the evening, they also air the fiddlers convention in August, we must be coming up on about the 78th;

This is a good place to visit if you're ever cruising the Parkway;

Which makes my mind wander. The other side of that tape was Elizabeth Cotten's set.  She was over 80 then, her voice was becoming frail but she still played well. A number of later musicians were influenced by her. As a young girl she had picked up a guitar and taught herself to play by ear. Being left handed she had simply flipped the guitar over. When I walked the tracks home I would walk by the house she lived in when she wrote "Freight Train". She had an interesting life;

I think it is cool that Red's son is into traditional music.  We need more kids like that.....

A recorded performance from the 1940s by some nice West Texas girls.  The song doesn't really do much for me but the performance blows my mind.  .. kinda slow to start, stick with it.

John - nice tunes by Steven.

I've been a fan of Old Time music since the early 1960s.  Bought my first banjo in 1964.  Use to see Doc Watson at the Ash Grove in the 60's as well.

Here's a couple of mine, no video...

Someday soon I hope to be able to make it out to West Virginia and see Dogtrot at Hightop in person and play a little music with Steven and his friends...

Your more than Welcome.  Can't say that I have heard the first one but the second I have but it has a little different name. So many other tunes from different regions take on a little different style and often the names change.  Maybe to protect the innocent. ;)  Both of the songs Steven played are Hammons tunes passed down from 60-80 years ago.  Surprising enough there is not that much variation.  I will let him hear them tomarrow.

Here is a sampler of some of their songs.

I know what you mean... Muddy Roads sounds a lot like Salt Creek...

Got a chance this morning for Steven to listen to your songs.  He has played them both but said " they are different" but similar.   I think a lot of the variation is the blend of Old Time to Bluegrass and vice versa.
