I am so stoked for this weekends cabin trip! Not only will we be getting back to the cabin after a MONTH away (it's been toooooo long) but I should be bringing some metal 'gongs' to set up for target shooting fun!
I'm getting 2 3" rounds, a 4" and a 6" round and a 12"x18" rectangle all cut from 1/4" steel. I'll hang the rounds on a cross bar with chain so we can shoot 25 and 50 yards at them with pistols (nothing like getting the feedback from the metal targets) and the rectangle I will place where we can shoot 100-300 yards at it :)
I can't wait!
I've reloaded about 20 rounds for my old 30-30 (Model 94 Canadian Centennial Rifle with octagonal barrel) to try my hand at reloading for it (I've only done .308 for the rifle so far and they have been very nice to shoot) and a ton of .45acp for the kimber and plan to do a bunch of hard cast lead for the Vaquero (.45 colt) and will bring lots for my wifes .357 magnum too.
I think we'll have a great time with it if I can get the gongs done before we take off and some chain to hang them with :D
So ya, I'm excited...and Yonderosa it's YOUR FAULT! I loved those darn videos of you guys shooting .45's and a bunch of lever guns at the gongs that I just had to do it.

AR500 steel? Or regular. We have some AR500 steel ones (our son does) and they're nice, no deforming even after hundreds of rounds. Lots of metal splatter from the bullets though. ;D

Don't know yet but for the $30 I was quoted for 2 3", a 4" and a 6" and a plate I figured I could get the 500's later if these aren't that hard.
Can't wait to test them out!

Saw those reactive targets -- look like a great deal of fun!
Tried out the gongs this weekend and my .45acp doesn't put holes in them :) However the chains I used broke after 3 hits each so I need to get a better way to fix them to a cross bar.
Note: my 30-30 goes right through them *chuckle* I suspected it would but had to see what it would do. One shot, one hole. Nuff said.

Never hit the chains. The violent impact of a 230 grain hollow point created such a strain on the cheap chains that they practically exploded!

I think mine were 1/16th! LOL I bought cheap chain not thinking that it might not have the strength to withstand the impact of a bullet on the heavy metal gong!
