Title: Houseplans.com RIP OFF
Post by: redbird on December 21, 2011, 02:56:11 PM
I just sincerely want to say thanks for this site of people and for John who provides plans for the people.  I like to browse on houseplans.com (not anymore) to just see what is out there and there is not 1 single house that I like.  I'm not picky either, I just like things to make sense and to not feel like I'm being taken for a fool.  Those crappy plans are selling for $5000!  I mean seriously??? All of them are houses for the extremely wealthy, fulfilling the myth that only rich people can build their dream home.  BS!

I know a lot of people build this site's homes for cabins not full time homes BUT, what an amazing thing to buy awesome and functional plans for less than $200 bucks.

I'm not trying to discredit the talent and complexity of developing a house plan, I just personally think that this sites plans provide a lot more service to REAL people.  The 90%!

With tons of horribly made houses falling down out there in the world right now due to crappy building practices, we need John's plans to rebuild the future in a realistic and environmentally friendly (footprint and other) way.

Felt like ranting on that a bit.  Thanks for reading ;)

This is why I chose to research all the available layouts on the internet and then come up with my own design.

Of course not everyone is a "Design Draftsman" as I am, But I have been drafting for "professionals" since 1978.

I once was hauled up before the Missouri board of Architects/Surveyors/Engineers, under the charge of passing myself off as a registered Architect! Unfortunately for them on every drawing page and every detail page read these little words... "NOT A REGISTERED ARCHITECT/ENGINEER" and they finally downgraded the charges to:
"Your work too closely resembles that which comes out of a professional office" At which I said thank you.

I still laugh at them because of the "stink" they raised because I was encroaching on their "Turf".

I say If you don't know how or are unable to draw your own plans, find a local drafter he/she will do it for tons less than a professional and still be of professional quality.
