I just spent an hour at Menards getting a Materials quote from the Little House -Shell Materials List for the 10x14 and for the Gable roof & loft portion of the 12x18. And I thought I'd share what I got to save someone else from standing there.
Since I had no idea what the materials are (I've never built anything) I wasn't able to give much input to the sales person. However, a few employees were giving input, so hopefully its close. I opted for steel roofing and cedar siding, because they looked the prettiest :)
The total estimate for the 10x14 was $1823.76 for materials. The total estimate for the 12x18 "gable roof & loft section" AND the "other items" section, came to $2310.67.
I can try to scan these documents in and post, if anyone wants to see the details. Let me know!
I should point out that the cedar siding I picked is the most expensive d*
The price listed is $59.99 for 13 5/8" (19/32) 4x8 8" OC for the 10x14. That's $800 bucks! Yikes, might be changing my mind there.
For the 12x18 the total siding would be $1199.00, now I know you can save money there! oops!
I'll preface this by saying I LOVE Menards. And, we're probably buying the vast majority of our house from Menards.
However, that said, DON'T JUST LET THEM DELIVER YOUR MATERIALS!!
Menards stocks a LOT of crappy lumber. I hand pick absolutely everything I bring home. Sometimes it takes a few hours in the board shed to do so, too.
Ditto on hand picking. Menards has some decent lumber but it needs to be sorted. I suspect if they are picking the lumber for you, they grab the piles that people doing their own selection have left behind while picking out the choice pieces.
I find this to be the case for everywhere.
I have always hand picked all my framing components. Otherwise they will deliver the biggest bunch of bananas you ever "saw".
